semi finals Sunday. And yes it's also Mother's day.

We have one team already in the finals but hopefully there will be more.

Three of our men's teams will be competing this weekend in a bid to get a step further and make it to the finals.

The 'Bisset' team play at Pakuranga, the 'Vice Presidents' at Windross Farm and 'Interclub I' have a home semi final (no pressure guys).

The Interclub III team will have the weekend off as 'Doc' ponders his finals selection strategy.

Vice Presidents manage to get the games needed. Semi Final spot booked.

  • Good win by Interclub 1 and a place in the finals
  • Good win by Interclub 3 and a place in the semi-finals.

It's Masters week but this weekend is also shaping up as a very competitive one for our male golfers. It is all to play for so here is the situation in our mens pennant grades for 2019.

Bisset Shield

In the top Auckland division there is an intense battle for the number three spot and a place in the semi-finals. It is hard to see the top two teams (Titirangi and Remuera) lose their positions so they will both be trying desperately to secure the automatic finals berth. Akarana sit in third place but only 2 ½ points separate us and the next three teams. Someone will get the spoils and with Akarana playing bottom of the table Howick we still have our destiny in our own hands. Howick however have the home advantage for this last qualifying round so the lads will need to dig deep.

Our Presidents team have had a tough year and sit on the bottom of the table. The top three teams in this division are all but sorted out so for many it is a dead rubber. Playing for pride is the order of the day but as the final game is also a match up with the host club it doesn't get any easier for our boys. Good luck guys at Windross Farm.

Vice Presidents

With a team in each of the top three Auckland golf divisions it is always a big ask to perform well in every one of them. The Vice Presidents team has stepped up again this year and hopefully secured themselves a semi-final place in the process. Two points should be good enough on the day to get through but the match is against runaway leaders Titirangi so it is no time to relax. The selectors have consulted the strategy book for this one and will hope it plays out as planned. Watch this space for Sunday's results from Whitford Park.

Inter Club

In both the Inter Club competitions the set-up is pretty similar. In division one 3½ points separate the top five teams so there is no time for nerves. The advantage for Akarana is that the other two teams in the top three are playing each other but as top team Titirangi have the home game advantage nothing is a given. Akarana are only 1 ½ points off the number 1 spot so a good result could see us straight through to the finals.

For our other Inter Club team the maths is even closer. Only half a point seperates the top three teams and there is only a 3 point spread for the top 6 teams (of 8 in total). Akarana and Waiuku (the top two and on the same points) play each other at Howick after completion of the Bissett Shield matches. A win should see the team somewhere in the final mix but it is as open as it gets and it won't be until late Sunday afternoon that we will know the where, why and when.

Good luck to all competitors and their caddies. And if you are out and about and near one of the venues drop in and support a team.
