Womens Captain Update June 2017

Hello Ladies,

*Well, winter is nearly here, time to see if the wet weather gear is still water proof and bring  the merino out , also time to check the sprigs. Whilst the course is in good condition ( the new drainage systems are working) there are some wet, slippy patches so please take care around the  course . Boring, I know, but please replace divots and remember to look for pitch marks you can repair, with the greens  soft this time of the year it is important to keep up with  the “housework” .

*With Winter approaching, the urge to stay snuggled up in bed increases, please ring the proshop if you decide to pull out as the draw will need to be changed. This also leads me to ask that you arrive  at least 15 minutes before your allocated  tee times as these changes may mean you go a bit earlier.

*Some of you will  have seen this before , but I love repeating it!

A big thank you to you all. It was great to see so many of you supporting our 9 hole Pink Ribbon Day, either by playing, buying a raffle ticket, donations or generally helping out. What was most important we all came together  as a club to raise  $3245.00. Big pat on backs Ladies, especially Marlene and her 9 hole team.

*A long Pennant season is nearly over, with Betty Faesen one more game .

A Pennant's last game at Akarana on the 12th June.

Midweek had the last  game this Thursday . The teams in the final, three way playoff will be Titirangi #1 , Titirangi #2 and Onewhero #1 at Whitford Park, Thursday 8th.

Weekend teams  both have one more game , I hope I don't jinx it but fingers and toes crossed for the A section to be in the final .

*As some of you are aware from Thursday 28 September to Sunday 1 October 2017, the LPGA are coming to Auckland. The MCKAYSON NZ Women's Open will be played at Windcross Farm and they are looking for volunteers.

One option offered is for clubs to ‘Adopt a Hole'. This would involve Akarana members marshalling that hole for the four days of the tournament. A great way to see some golf and be involved. Depending on numbers we will be allocated a par 3,4 or 5 and can work in shifts to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to also walk the course, cheer for Lydia and watch some golf.

If you are interested can you please go to the website and register your interest to volunteer, link below. In the comments box indicate that you are an Akarana member and keen to be part of the ‘Adopt a Hole' option.  Once the tournament know how many of us are interested they will allocate us a hole. It would be good to get a few people involved so that we can share the responsibility over the four days. Some partners/husbands/friends may also want to be involved.

Online registration form here - http://www.nzwomensopen.com/volunteers-registrations.html

If you decide to volunteer maybe  we can coordinate our ladies and to  car pool etc.

*There is a final Pairs day at The Grange , Thursday 29th June. The flyer is on the notice board near Hayden's office.

*Enjoy your long weekend, it's the last till Labour Weekend.
